GENERAL

How does online tutoring work?

Students will need access to a computer and high-speed internet. During the lesson, the student and I will use Skype or Google Hangouts to hear and see each other, and an online whiteboard that we both can write on using a mouse or tablet. We can also upload any images or worksheets into the whiteboard. Sometimes we'll watch videos or use online tools like desmos or geogebra. It’s very interactive and surprisingly easy.

Can you help me with other subjects apart form maths?

I mainly tutor maths but am from an engineering background so am also able to tutor Physics up to A level. If you or your child needs help with Physics and we have finished the maths work for a particular lesson I am more than happy to help.

TIMINGS

How often should I or my children have tutoring sessions?

Frequency of sessions depends on the student’s needs and goals. Most students start with a weekly 1 hour lesson, then adjust if needed. If you or your child is behind in the course, has a lot to cover or needs a good amount of support during a lesson, I recommend a 90 minute session or two 1-hour sessions on a regular weekly basis. For kS3 students or for a small check up lesson, 45-minute or 30-minute sessions may be more appropriate. If a student is motivated and needs the help, tremendous progress can be made. We will discuss the needs and goals of your child prior to the first lesson and can also adjust as needed.

I need extra help this week. Are you available?

I always try to fit in the students who have upcoming exams or a deadline so the best thing to do is drop me a message and ask. If possible I will try to rearrange other things to squeeze in an additional lesson.

PAYMENT & GETTING STARTED

What are your rates?

My rate is currently from £65p/h which reflects my experience and the quality of service you will receive. Rates also include preparation of resources, google drive access and the out of lesson support. Discounts are available for block lesson bookings and referrals.

Note - All students also receive access to their own individual google drive folder where I provide resources that they can access at any time and access to one of the online courses worth £100.

How does payment work?

At the moment I am only able to take bank transfers or mobile phone payment. For regular weekly lessons this can be paid on a half termly basis. For one-off lessons this must be paid in advance.

What is your cancellation policy?

This business is a main source of income. That said, my cancellation policy is my very best attempt to balance fairness to the student and to myself. Additionally, tutoring is a valuable commitment, and showing up to each tutoring session helps the student create momentum in their learning.

  • I ask that you let me know about a cancellation as soon as possible. Where possible I try to reschedule.

  • Excessive cancellations may be reason for ending tutoring services and offering the slot to another student.

How can I get started?
